Cardiff Metropolitan Cathedral Choir sings the weekly services in Wales’ National Roman Catholic Cathedral, the Metropolitan Cathedral of St David in the centre of Cardiff.
Since 1988, the choristers have been educated at the leading independent day school for girls and boys, St John’s College, created by its Founder Principal, the late Dr David Neville.
Under the direction of Dominic Neville, the Choir frequently sings in live broadcast on BBC Radio 4 before an estimated audience of 1.6 million, and performs four annual concerts at St David's Hall and at the Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In recent years, the choir has performed in St Paul's Cathedral and Westminster Abbey London, Bath Abbey, and Christ Church Cathedral Oxford, and further afield in Madrid, Bruges, Ghent, and at Nôtre Dame Cathedral, Paris. Our choristers have performed with BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales, the Choir of Gonville & Caius College Cambridge and The Tallis Scholars, and with international ensembles such as the Philadelphia Boys Choir (USA), St Bavo's Cathedral Choir (Netherlands) and the Chamber Strings of Melbourne (Australia). The Choir has also sung in a major Hollywood Feature Film and on BBC Television. We warmly welcome you to join us at our cathedral services on Sundays at 11am.
Canon Peter Collins, Dean of the Metropolitan Cathedral, announced in December 2015:
“On behalf of the Cathedral Community I extend our warmest congratulations to Dr David Neville KSG upon receiving a Papal Knighthood within the Order of St Gregory from His Holiness Pope Francis. The honour has been bestowed in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the life of the Archdiocese over the past thirty-five years through his role as Director of Music and Organist at this Metropolitan Cathedral Church of Saint David. As founder Principal of St John’s College, designated as the Cathedral Choir School, Dr David Neville has created a structure of musical provision for the Cathedral that is the envy of my fellow Cathedral Deans.”
For many in Cardiff, regardless of religious denomination, the annual Christmas performance by the Cardiff (St David’s) Metropolitan Cathedral Choir, in St David’s Hall, is a highlight of the year - a tribute to the ability of this choir, under David Neville’s inspired direction, to produce singing of the highest standard which is at one and the same time an embodiment of worship and praise to the greater glory of God.
